Chastising

Facebook keeps getting better and better. Four hundred million people are members but I'll be damned if I can convince a handful of folks, with whom I'd most like a rich communicative experience, to sign up. I can't help but think of dinosaurs. I can remember in the mid-1990's chiding friends who didn't yet have an email addresses. I said they were missing out on an opportunity too important to ignore. Now, that type of paradigm-shifting net application is Facebook.

First off, Facebook is not a club for people who don't like real contacts, D in B. It's a way to collaborate without the barriers of distance or time. We all like face-to-face time with current buddies. Yet, avoiding Facebook indicates that you wish to sever connections with acquaintances whom you no longer see daily. Set aside 15 minutes of time you'd otherwise waste on the Internet. Opening an email program to write a message is just NOT how the world works anymore. Teachers most always are sharers. Most teachers try to stay current. For example, schools no longer offer lessons on the art of using fountain pens.

Moreover, I love getting occasional URL links to news items, E&S, but it's not a match for the constant, peripheral view we could maintain through Facebook. Surely, you'll begin noting new, little Facebook "Share" and "Recommend" buttons all over the Internet. I'd really like to learn more by what you chose to share. While you're out exploring the net, vote with the buttons on what is valuable. In other words, I miss hearing from you!

Lastly, Mr. T, how about making actual use of your account to share some new thoughts and information with others? Collecting friends is not useful unless you actually let us know what's going on.



I don't know. I vented my spleen and feel relieved, I guess. I love the experience and wisdom which comes with age but I wish a number of my friends could act a bit more millennial.
