So, today we headed to the Home Depot across the river near Scott Road in Surrey. We ended up returning at about noon without the lights, but with a new stove and refrigerator on order!
I cannot say that it was a spur-of-the-moment purchase. In fact, I had already made a little spreadsheet detailing the size between our cabinets for the appliances. The sales woman was very pleased to see customers who were so well prepared. Little did she know that I first thought about getting a new fridge five whole years ago. The Admiral has been here longer than we have. It was originally installed in the apartment when the buildings were constructed in the mid-1980's. After 30 years of service, I feel it has more than done its job. We saw a new one with a freezer on the bottom that is around the same size as our present refrigerator.
Secondly, we figured we might as well replace the electric range too. We will have to learn how to use a smooth surface rather than the old coils. I'm not sure whether the new convection oven is important as we don't use our present oven a lot. The model we got just seemed like a better deal for the price.
Our kitchen cabinets are white and it was logical to stick to appliances of the same colour. Strangely, we discovered it'd cost more to stay with white appliances. It seems as if 90% of the offerings are in stainless steel now. Who are we to buck trends? We're not bothering to get a new dishwasher now. Luckily, its black panel front will match the new steel just fine. The delivery of the two items is scheduled for this Friday.
We still need to look for a living room light fixture though.
